This guide shows how to use Chatbase’s updated Playground to test and compare multiple AI models, adjust settings, and finalize the best configuration for your chatbot.

Prerequisites

• A free or paid Chatbase account. Sign up.
• An existing chatbot or create a new one in the dashboard.
• Basic familiarity with the Chatbase interface.

Step‑by‑Step Instructions

1. Open Your Chatbot’s Playground

   1. Log in to Chatbase.
   2. From the dashboard, click the chatbot you want to test.
   3. In the left sidebar, click Playground.

2. Select the AI Model

   1. In the Playground, locate the Model dropdown.
   2. Click the dropdown and choose one of the new models (e.g., GPT‑4 o, Claude 3 Haiku, Gemini 1.5 Flash).
   3. Note the credit cost shown next to each model to estimate usage.

3. Adjust Temperature (Optional)

   1. Find the Temperature slider below the model selector.

4. Edit System Prompt

   1. On the left panel, click the Instructions field.
   2. Type or paste a system prompt that defines the bot’s role (e.g., "You are a friendly customer support agent.").

5. Test the Bot

   3. If unsatisfied, modify the prompt or temperature and retest.

6. Save Changes to the Main Bot

   1. When happy with the configuration, click the large Save to Chatbot button at the top.
   2. This commits the selected model, temperature, and prompt to the live chatbot.

7. Use Compare Mode for Side‑by‑Side Testing

   1. In the Playground, click the Compare button (top right).
   2. Click Add Chatbot to create a new instance.
   3. For each instance, choose a different model and/or temperature.
   4. Type a message once; it will be sent to all instances simultaneously.
   5. Review responses side‑by‑side to decide which configuration performs best.
   6. After selecting the preferred instance, click Save to Chatbot to apply those settings to your main bot.

• Credit Costs: Faster models like GPT‑4 o Mini cost 1 credit per message, while higher‑capability models like Claude 3 Opus cost 20 credits. Keep track to avoid exhausting your plan.
• Model Availability: Some models may be unavailable if you’ve run out of credits; check the status message in the Playground.
• Instruction Prompt: Changes only take effect after clicking Save to Chatbot; otherwise, they remain in the playground only.
• Temperature Range: The default is 0; increasing it can produce more varied responses but may reduce consistency.
• Compare Mode Sync: If you don’t want a message to propagate to all instances, untick the Sync option for that instance.
• Revised Answers: Use the Activity page’s Revised Answer button to fine‑tune responses that you dislike.
